Suggestions, Please!

We are barely into our 2009/2010 season of offerings and we’re already looking at prospective shows for our 2010/2011 season. As with this year we will be offering two plays and two musicals (and a summer musical as well.) Any suggestion is a good suggestion, but here’s a bit of criteria:

1) Must be a show that features the cast. So we’re not looking for star vehicles (like Hello Dolly or My Fair Lady.)

2) Preferably shows that speak to our demographic, which is generally the 18-40 demographic, however we are well aware that we also have audience on either end of that spectrum, so this is just a minor criteria.

3) Ideally they will be shows that have never been produced in British Columbia, however we will accept them as long as they have not been produced recently.

So, please start leaving your suggestions below. We will be announcing our short list of shows in January, 2010 at the opening night of Forbidden Broadway.

Hi there.,….I have the perfect suggestion for you and it would be an excellent crowd pleaser plus it fits in the demographic. I think it might be great for 2011 or 2012 and i know that punk music is very much alive in Vancouver!
I was one of the few Canadians that went to American Idiot, the Green Day musical .I went to two premieres. .It is still running to November 15th at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre in Berkeley California..it uses all the cast and many musicians.it is currently is directed by Michael Mayer of Spring Awakening .It is the theatrical production of Green Days American Idiot (the whole album) plus many songs from the 21st Century Break Down album. It is Essentially a Punk Musical. We are hoping it gets to Broadway in 2010!

    Below are two links …
one is the trailer ( not the best…but shows a bit of what its about)
and info about the actual play itself.

    American idiot… Amazing!

  6. American Idiot is a fantastic suggestion! I attended the first 2 preview shows, Green Day were among us in the audience the first night, and the energy in the crowd and on stage was magnificent. The show is spectacular and there is so much room for new innovation and interpretation.

I would definitely audition for American Idiot. Watching the show lit a new fire inside me to do more theatre, more specifically musical theatre. Now I can only hope it gets picked up here in Vancouver.
