Why I Love Musicals – a Contest

posterproperWe figured it was time for another contest here at Fighting Chance Productions (if Artistic Director Ryan Mooney had his own talk show, he’d be giving away free stuff all the time.)

Forbidden Broadway spoofs musical theatre, but it does it out of love. And it seems like Vancouver audiences love their musicals, so we’re curious, what do you love about the musical theatre?

We’d love to give away four tickets to the Opening Night showing of Forbidden Broadway AND passes to the after party, so it’s simple, just comment on this post and tell us why YOU love musical theatre. Sounds simple right? Well – it is!

So, get started! The contest closes December 18th!

  • I love musical theatre because it allows you to connect on so many levels. Thanks to musical theatre, I have enjoyed random sing-a-longs at bus stops, border-crossing trips just to see shows together, and even unexpected Facebook conversations. Because some shows are just so timeless, it has allowed me to connect with other generations and have conversations where differences of age didn’t matter. At the theatre, I love it because you get to laugh with fellow audience members at all the right moments, watch a story unfold, and take in all the complexity and the emotion from the composer, the lyricist, the book writer, the actors, and the musicians.

Because there’s a little George inside each of us, all searching to connect the dots.

  • What is it that makes musicals stand out from other forms of theatre? Well, the music! I love the narrative trope we as audiences buy into to allow characters to, through song, delve into their deepest, brightest, darkest, and most passionate desires and questions in ways so few people ever could with mere words. I love music that stirs up emotions in me as strongly as any monologue.

And to be honest? I like happy plays, theatre to warm my soul. And happy plays are so often also musicals, whether they’re Wind In The Willows, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Joseph, or any number of others. Plays filled with bright eyed feelings that my friends, coworkers – heck, even strangers – can share with each other, chipperly singing along, years after leaving our seats.

  • I love Musical Theatre because the person I love is obsessed with it.

  • Well it’s simple really, Musical theatre makes me smile. It makes me cry, it makes me laugh, it makes me want to jump up and dance, and sing at the top of my lungs. It takes me out of my everyday and lets me adventure into a new world. Whether I am watching it, or acting in it, Musical Theatre makes me feel alive! :-)

  • Musical theatre is silly and fun. The opportunity for escapism is better than in any other format!

  • I love musical theatre because I can live vicariously through those that actually have singing and acting talent.
