music direction by Vashti Fairbairn

July 6-23, 2011

Fighting Chance Productions, responsible for the sell-out hits Sweeney Todd, Forbidden Broadway, Rent and The Musical of Musicals: The Musical is on the move again, this time to White Rock to bring a new production of the hilarious off-Broadway smash Nunsense to White Rock residents! When Five of the 19 surviving Little Sisters of Hoboken decide to put on a variety show to raise money for a burial of four remaining deceased sisters all hell is about to break loose! Join the star-seeking Robert Anne, the tight-rope walking Mother Superior, the ballet-obssessed Mary Leo, straight shooting Mary Hubert and of course the forgetul Mary Amnesia (accompanied by her conscience Sister Mary Annette who is, what else? A puppet!)

Nunsense marks the first partnership for the White Rock Players and Fighting Chance Productions – both reputable community theatre groups in the Lower Mainland. Fighting Chance and White Rock Players are both members of the CTC – Community Theatre Coalition, and last year FCP was nominated for 19 awards for their musicals in Vancouver, winning six including Outstanding Production, Director, Music Director and Choreography. Nunsense promises to follow in the footsteps of Fighting Chance’s other award-winning and critically acclaimed productions.

The cast is comprised of five of the Lower Mainland’s top musical theatre performers including White Rock resident Nicole Stevens, CTC and Ovation winning actress Cathy Wilmot, Janet Glassford who has graced stages at the Arts Club and Metro Theatres, Keri Smith who was a cast member of the internationally recognized Fighting Chance Production of The Laramie Project and Canadian College of Performing Arts graduate Celia Smith who just finished playing Peggy Sawyer in the Metro Theatre hit production of 42nd Street. Joining the cast is Fraser Valley Gilbert & Sullivan Society music director Vashti Fairbairn who was also CTC and Ovation nominated as a music director. The production will be directed by CTC and Ovation award winning Artistic Director Ryan Mooney. Nunsense has all the makings of the perfect summer musical for White Rock and Lower Mainland audiences!

Nunsense plays at the White Rock Playhouse (1532 Johnston Road) from July 6-23, 2010. Wednesdays-Saturdays at 8pm, with matinees on Saturdays at 2pm and Sundays at 3pm. Tickets are $20 – $25.
